THREE NRL clubs make offers for Jack Welsby

Stars from Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and St Helens have been linked with huge NRL moves lately with Harry Newman, Harry Smith and Jack Welsby all linked with moves down under.

But is is Jack Welsby who seems constantly with a move down under. Interest started in the last World Cup and only intensified with his heroics in the World Club Challenge for St Helens against Penrith.

During this time, NRL legend Cooper Cronk said: “I think he has that ability to predict where the ball is going to be. There was a line break through the middle (in a trial against the Dragons) where he knew the play was coming back this way and he hit the accelerator.

“The guy has been unbelievable in Super League and had a really good World Cup.

“He has that rare ability as a fullback to create tries through his passing game but also bob up for the offloads as well. He is very impressive.”

Now that interest has rekindled with the Mole of Wide World of Sports reporting that three NRL clubs including Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons are interest in the fullback after his England exploits against Tonga.

On this Test Series, Welsby recently said of opponents Tonga: “They’re more than decent, they’re a brilliant side I think. They’ve proven that over the last couple of years, and some of the talent that’s coming through as well- not just the senior players but the younger players that are coming through are really difficult to handle if you get them on the wrong day. We’re going to have to be on our A game, but I’m sure we will be.”

He added: “It’s brilliant. I loved it last year with Wane. He’s tough, he’s honest and that’s exactly what you want from your Head Coach. I’m delighted he’s picked me to put on this shirt again and hopefully I can do it proud.”

But could these be his last games in the UK for some time? Time will tell but taking him away from St Helens would command a sizeable transfer fee.
