Transfer news: Castleford Tigers star wanted as Wigan Warriors forward returns

Castleford Tigers' Brad Martin

Castleford Tigers have had a difficult start to the 2024 season. However, they managed to secure their second win of the season last weekend. Castleford routed London Broncos by 40 points to nil.

The Tigers have been busy in the transfer market recently. They have secured the services of Tex Hoy, Louis Senior and Corey Hall until the end of the season.

However, according to rumours, Cas may be on the verge of losing one of their star players.

Brad Martin is a product of the Castleford academy. He made his debut in the 2020 season and has featured four times for the Tigers this season. The 23-year-old back row forward is thought to have a big future ahead of him.

With his contract set to expire, he has been linked with a move to Super League rivals, Leigh Leopards.  Tigers head coach, Craig Lingard, stated he was unaware of the potential move in his weekly press conference.

“I’ve not been party to those conversations and if anybody has at the club, I’m not sure. That’s a new one on me,” Lingard said.

Transfer update from Castleford

In a further blow to Castleford, Sam Eseh has returned to Wigan Warriors. The highly-rated forward picked up a hamstring injury, which will cut short his stay at the Jungle.

However, speaking to Wigan Today, Wigan coach Matt Peet has confirmed that the Tigers will have first refusal on Eseh, when he returns to fitness.

“Castleford have been excellent and sent him back to us this week.

“I said to Craig Lingard, once he gets himself back and up and running, it might be that he plays for the reserves this week but after that, if we are looking for a loan opportunity, then the right thing to do would be to give Castleford first refusal.”
