The Rock has huge say on rugby league amid massive viral controversy

In a video captured by the NRL, former rugby league player and current NFL player Jordan Mailata met Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

Mailata was a member of the South Sydney Rabbitohs squad in 2017 scoring eight tries in 12 games for their under 20s from prop.

In 2018, he was picked up in the NFL draft and currently played for the Philadelphia Eagles playing a total of 62 games in the NFL.

From Samoan descent, he met up with another famous Samoan in the shape of the Rock in Las Vegas the week of the Super Bowl.

The Rock was in Vegas for WWE’s Wrestlemania Kick-off event the week of the Super Bowl but of course next month the NRL is also headed to Vegas and Mailata took the chance to speak to the rock about the NRL.

Mailata asked: “I don’t know if you’ve watched rugby league?

The Rock replied: “Yeah, we all watch rugby. Well, do you ever feel the ball before? But it is awesome.

Mailata continued to push the sport saying: “That’s what’s coming down on me, man. That’s what’s coming over here.

“I’m very grateful for the NRL, I want them to come for me and my journey. I’m Samoan, man. Samoan.”

As Mailata spoke about how tough he finds American Football, The Rock said: “Football’s tough, Yeah, but rugby’s tough as well.”

The Rock could not have said this at a better time in all honesty for the sport of rugby league.

Not only is the Rock in headlines due to the announcement of Moana 2 but he and his saga back in the WWE has been trending worldwide on X since last Friday when it appeared to fans that he stole the Wrestlemania Main Event of Cody Rhodes.

This resulted in trends like #WeWantCody and #RockySucks which the Rock addressed in a viral clip calling out the so called #CodyCryBabies.

He would go on to slap Rhodes at the event after he talked up the NRL in another viral clip.

For someone so in the public eye in America to be talking about the sport of rugby league is a huge win for the sport. Hopefully, he can attend the games in Vegas amid his feud with Rhodes in WWE.
