Super League’s March Coach of the Month revealed

Following the continuation of a fantastic run of unbeaten games, stretching back to the start of the Betfred Super League season, Warrington Wolves’ Daryl Powell has been named as the Betfred Coach of the Month for the second time in 2023.

March saw Powell’s men secure five victories, including wins over Leigh Leopards, Castleford Tigers, Salford Red Devils and a double over the Hull teams.

Many say the belief and determination has returned to Warrington this season and having already got a further win under their belts over the Easter weekend, it is hard to disagree.

The voting panel commented on Powell by saying: Powell might feel hard done by if he didn’t win given his side are 100% so far!.

“Again, the start to the season has been proven not to be a fluke. Their performances have seen Paul Vaughan, George Williams and Matt Dufty deliver but it’s as much a teamwork prize as the Wire have shown few signs of weak links in defence or attack.”

On winning the award, Daryl Powell said: “As with last month I like to put this on the coaching staff and the players. For what they put themselves through each weekend, they’ve been phenomenal.

“It’s reward for everything. We’re all working super hard to be as good as we can be and when you get these accolades it means a lot. You don’t take too many pats on the back though because next week is next week and we need to go again. We’ve started awesome and we need to keep going. Nobody’s getting carried away and we’ll just keep working hard.”

The Wolves face local rivals Wigan Warriors in Round Nine on Friday night (April 14) – another Betfred Super League blockbuster between first and second in the table.
