Super League Grand Final linked with sensational move away following major Old Trafford news

The Super League Grand Final has found its home at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

The ‘Theatre of Dreams’ has played host to many a rip-roaring, incredible final fixture of the season as two of the best sides go head-to-head on the hallowed Old Trafford turf.

With the exception of the 2020 Grand Final – which was hosted at Hull FC’s MKM Stadium for Covid-19 reasons – each year the event has taken place at the Manchester United ground.

Yet, Super League and the RFL could potentially face problems in 2022 as United consider renovation work.

Some of those ideas touted by the football club have included knocking the stadium down and building a new one on the same site, according to The Guardian.

Modernisation at Old Trafford has been sparse since Malcolm Glazer bought the club in 2005 – the increased capacity to 75,000 via the quadrants built in 2006 was given the green light before the late American purchased United.

Last month Collette Roche, United’s chief operating officer, discussed Old Trafford’s with the club fans’ forum. “We have been assessing the capabilities of globally leading consultants who want to help us develop a masterplan for the modernisation of Old Trafford, with the ultimate aim of improving the matchday experience for fans,” she said.

“We are hoping to appoint our preferred partners in the coming weeks; following this, we will be able to formally kick off phase one of the project, which will be focused on establishing the vision and objectives for the masterplan.”
