Super League Disciplinary: Five stars hit with bans and one faces tribunal

Wigan Warriors

Easter weekend meant Rivals Round in Super League with fans treated to several brilliant derby games but some got quite heated which has meant the Super League disciplinary process has been busy once again.

Super League disciplinary matters are always key points of interest for fans and the 2024 season saw them garner huge reactions in Round One and Round Two.

That was because Round One saw a whopping 16 players charged whilst Round Two saw that infamous Nu Brown send-off against Warrington Wolves.

Following the Nu Brown incident, the RFL released a statement which has tidied up Super League disciplinary matters somewhat and the number of charges and bans have reduced in the ensuing weeks.

Round Five saw just one ban handed out across Super League with St Helens’ James Bell landed a one-game ban for dangerous contact meaning he missed the Red Vee’s Good Friday clash with Wigan.

That game will likely be where plenty of the Super League disciplinary focus is this week with Liam Byrne having been sent off and Tyler Dupree sin-binned in what was a high-intensity clash.

Sky Sports’ Jon Wilkin claimed that the Match Review Panel would be keen to have a “good look” at the actions of Dupree, although he did maintain that a yellow card was the right decision in his eyes.

Other incidents across the weekend that may warrant a look at by the Match Review Panel include Paul Vaughan’s sin bin against Catalans where he lost control in the tackle and dumped his opponent on their head, whilst Justin Sangare, who was perhaps lucky to avoid a sin ban against Castleford, could pay the price at disciplinary.

The charges have now been determined by the RFL and can be seen below.
