Relations are currently tense between Hull FC and Leigh Leopards. On Friday, Hull FC announced the signing of John Asiata on a bumper contract. Asiata is currently one of the Leopards’ key players, but his contract will expire at the end of the season.

After the move was announced, Leigh owner Derek Beaumont, criticised Hull FC, claiming he was “staggered” by the deal. He went on to say that Asiata had been “thrown under the bus” by his new club.

Leigh Leopards recall loanee

Now, Leigh appear to have responded, by recalling a player who has spent time on loan with Hull in recent weeks. FC posted a short statement on their website which explained that Ed Chamberlain would return to Leigh with immediate effect.

“Hull FC can confirm that loanee Ed Chamberlain has been recalled by parent club Leigh Leopards.

“The centre made two appearances for the Black & Whites in their Betfred Super League fixtures against Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves during the last fortnight.

“Hull FC had hoped to extend the loanee’s time with the club after enjoying two promising displays, but the Leopards have now requested that the 28-year old returns to the Leigh Sports Village.

“The club would like to thank Ed for his efforts, and wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”

“Desperate people do desperate things”

Speaking after the Asiata deal was announced, Beaumont was critical of the way in which Hull handled the negotiations with Asiata.

“To see John thrown under the bus by the club he’s going to go to, which is what Hull FC have done in my opinion by putting that picture of him out holding the cup, with words that I think have been provided by his agent rather than him. It’s not really good behaviour at all.”

Before concluding, “Desperate people do desperate things and that’s what I kind of put it down to because they look pretty desperate.”

Leigh are currently well out of the playoff picture, having secured just two wins from their opening nine games. Leopards’ head coach, Adrian Lam, has also been linked with a move to Hull in recent weeks.
