Super League star injured after “accident” at training

Castleford Tigers stadium

Super League club Castleford Tigers have confirmed the loss of one of their players for the next couple of weeks due to an “accident” in training.

This came as the Super League club provided a medical update from Karl Blenkin, Head Physiotherapist.

For the immediate future, his update covered those players who could return soon including Elie El-Zakhem after his accidental injury.

The list is as follows:

– Sylvester Namo available for selection
– Josh Hodson and Paul McShane available for selection for the cup game vs Batley
– Danny Richardson has been back in the club this week, he had an unfortunate couple of weeks with first his head injury against Salford. He wasn’t right for a few days then came down with an illness which set him back. He’s put some of the weight loss back on and been back in the club running and in the gym. He’ll return to team training next week and hopefully available for selection for the cup game.
– Elie El-Zakhem had an accidental collision in training and irritated his knee. After speaking to the specialist, we were advised he should undertake a period of enforced rest and gradually return as symptoms allow. We’re hopeful this should be a relatively short term problem. And could be available for selection for the cup or Leeds Rhinos.
– Hindmarsh building fitness is available for selection.
– Watts is available for the cup game after his ban.

Super League side to miss players for months

Castleford Tigers also confirmed a number of players who face months on the sideline:

– George Griffin has had an op on his groin and will be around another 4-6 weeks.
– Jason Qareqare sustained an ankle injury in the game away at Salford. He has had an op and will take around 10 weeks to return
– Fletcher Rooney rolled his ankle a couple of times in training a few weeks apart, unfortunately rupturing a ligament on the second incident. He had this repaired 3 weeks back and he’s now in the club starting his rehab. Expected to be around a 10-week recovery from surgery.
– Muizz Mustapha saw the specialist yesterday for his knee injury. He’ll have another 5 weeks in the brace and then go through a period of rehab. We’re initially setting a target of early June.
– Will Tate continues to work hard on his recovery from his ankle fracture and ligament injuries sustained at the back end of last season. He’s nearly ready to return to rehab running. Due to the extent of the issue and multiple markers to hit he’ll remain in the rehab group for some time yet. We are looking for Will to be back later in the season.
