“Go somewhere else” – Castleford Tigers boss issues brutal warning to players

Castleford Tigers Head Coach has issued a warning to his players after their defeat to Huddersfield Giants.

The Castleford Tigers were battered by the Huddersfield Giants 50-8 last week and Craig Lingard has said that players will be dropped in response.

He said on BBC West Yorkshire Sport: “We’ve had some really honest conversations about our standards and what’s not acceptable and there’s certainly some things that are going to change this week and in terms of personnel as well because it’s what it needed.

“The games that we have had this year, the first three games that we had have been really positive and we have played well in parts in every single game but the Huddersfield Giants game wasn’t acceptable by any of our standards and we have made sure the players know that and the players know that themselves.”

He added: “I can’t pick the same 17 players who played against Huddersfield last week. It can’t happen. There has to be consequences.”

Craig Lingard also went on to tell players that don’t meet the performance, attitude and application standards could be told to play “somewhere else.”

He said: “If the performances aren’t acceptable than things have to change. There’s people who are dropping out of the team this week. There were guys who dropped out of the first team and played in the reserves at Huddersfield on Saturday and I thought their attitude and application was outstanding so them guys will get rewarded and come into the first team and the players who drop out know that if their performances aren’t good enough, or their application and attitude isn’t good enough they will drop down to reserves or go out somewhere else and play and that’s the standards we have.

“We are going to have bad days in the season and we know that because of the make up of the squad that we’ve got and that’s just how it is and we have to deal with that and come out on the other side a week after and make sure we don’t replicate the mistakes we made the previous week.”
