Leigh Leopards have more than made a splash since their rebrand and return to Super League.
Their impact on the field has been impressive as they now find themselves in the play-off spots and they have now been compared to the big impact The Dolphins have made in the NRL and former Sky Sports commentator Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson has heaped praise on Leigh and made the link to Wayne Bennett’s side.
“They’ll still have a few more wins in them, don’t worry about that,” he said on the Eddie and Stevo podcast.
“The team spirit that’s on display is outstanding and it’s great to see isn’t it.
“I’m glad that they’re doing well because the guy who owns it, he must be so proud of how they’re doing. Also give the crowd three cheers and clap your hands, the way they’ve supported them.
“In many ways it’s like what we’re seeing in Australia with the Dolphins. The Dolphins weren’t given much opportunity and Leigh weren’t either.
“It was ‘oh they’ll be going back down straight away’, the same old attitude but they’ve really put it together. They’ve got experience, they’ve got a lot of young kids coming through.”
Eddie Hemmings meanwhile added: “Also Derek has put his hand in his pocket and he’s thrown the book at it this year and he’s got his reward.”
