Star player reclaims Man of Steel lead with max points

The Man of Steel points for Round 12 are in and arguably Super League’s best player this season is back on top following a maximum point performance.

George Williams is the man who has reclaimed the lead, something that Wigan star Bevan French had taken from him for a brief spell.

Williams’ performance in his Warrington side’s impressive win over Hull KR earned him three points which takes him to a total of 17 for the season, from a possible 36.

He took max points in Wire’s win whilst forward Joe Philbin bagged two and losing loose forward Elliot Minchella earnt one.

Another player whose team lost but earned points was Castleford’s Bureta Faraimo who picked up a sole point for his two try display in the Tigers’ big loss to Catalans.

Dragons’ new star Adam Keighran picked up three whilst skipper Ben Garcia bagged himself a brace.

It was no surprise that Leigh swept the points in their dominant win over Huddersfield with perfect kicker Ben Reynolds taking three, former Giant Ricky Leutele taking two and then leading try-scorer Josh Charnley picking up one.

Thursday night saw Hull FC put their third win on the spin on the board against Wakefield and two of the men who Tony Smith outlined as being excellent picked up points.

Scott Taylor took the maximum three as he scored his 50th try of his career, former Rhino Liam Sutcliffe took two and veteran hooker Danny Houghton left Belle Vue with one point.

It was a game of two halves at the DW on Friday night as Leeds ending up blowing out Wigan despite being reduced to 12 men.

Harry Newman’s two intercept tries got him maximum points, Cam Smith’s late try and hard work saw him earn two and kicker Rhyse Martin picked up the final point.

As for Saturday’s game and James Roby’s record-breaking fixture, he sadly didn’t get on the board. Instead Jonny Lomax took three which propels him into the top five of the competition.

The other points were picked up by back-rowers Curtis Sironen and Joe Batchelor who picked up two and one points respectively.

That’s left Williams leapfrogging French back into first, the injured Jordan Abdull remains up there and Lomax, Charnley and Keighran form a chasing pack.

1- George Williams: 17 points

2- Bevan French: 15 points

3- Jordan Abdull: 12 points

4: Jonny Lomax: 11 points
