St Helens make call on star player following scary incident

Matty Lees and Morgan Knowles clap in St Helens shirts.

St Helens look to continue their unbeaten start when they host Leigh Leopards on Friday night but they’ve been dealt a blow as one of their star men misses out.

The first two games of the season have seen Paul Wellens’ side be near perfect with wins of 40-4 and 34-0, the sole try conceded seeing a brilliant effort by Lee Kershaw to keep the ball in play and allow for a score in the corner.

As for the Leopards, they’ve only had one game so far this season on account of their Round Two fixtures against local rivals Wigan Warriors being postponed.

They did lose their Round One game against Huddersfield though, who the Red Vee comfortably put away on Saturday which would be a worry for Adrian Lam and his side.

St Helens have now confirmed their squad for Friday night with Paul Wellens forced into two changes, both Tee Ritson and Matty Lees dropping out for Konrad Hurrell and Noah Stephens.

Lees had coughed up blood after the game following a bruising hit to the chest but after a trip to hospital, he’s been released and will recover at home.

Leigh Leopards name new signing to face St Helens

As for the Leopards, they were successful in getting both Ricky Leutele and Jack Hughes off their bans meaning that both men will be available.

Tom Amone did see his ban reduced to just one match which he will serve this week meaning he is unavailable.

Adrian Lam has confirmed that Edwin Ipape will be out for potentially two months, something that prompted the club to bring Brad Dwyer in on loan from Warrington Wolves and he has now been named within the squad.

Oliver Holmes also makes a return after missing out in Round One, whilst the half-back pairing of Matt Moylan and Lachlan Lam gets another game under their belt.
