Leigh Leopards star Tom Amone has provided an update on his future in an interview with The Mirror.

Amone is out of contract at the end of this season, having enjoyed a superb stint with Leigh so far.

Since signing in 2022 he has helped the club to promotion and the Challenge Cup glory last season.  Amone was then deservedly named in the 2023 Super League Dream Team.

His form this season has been impressive also, despite the Leopards struggling to match their achievements of last season both in Super League and the Challenge Cup.

As his contract runs down, it’s unsurprising the powerhouse prop is attracting interest from both Super League and the NRL.

Amone ‘still communicating’ with Leigh Leopards

In the interview with The Mirror, Amone was questioned about his future and confirmed that nothing had been put to him yet. He also confirmed that he was still in contact with current club Leigh, with a stay at the Leopards not out of the question.

“I’m not sure about what’s happening,” he said. “I’m still waiting for my manager. I’ll just give it a few more weeks and see what my options are. I’ll just wait and see.

“Nothing’s been offered. I’m just taking it week by week and hopefully I can put a few good performances in. [There is] still some communication there [with Leigh].”

Reports in Australia have revealed that a number of clubs there are interested in bringing Amone back down under, with a number of NRL sides impressed with his form during his time at Leigh.

Will Amone stay at Leigh?

It has been a tough time off the pitch for Leigh since May 1st, having seen John Asiata confirm he will leave the club to join Super League rivals Hull FC in 2025.

Reports also suggest that Oliver Holmes and Zak Hardaker will follow Asiata to Hull, with a big turnover of players expected at the Leigh Sports Village ahead of next season.

With that in mind, Amone may be tempted to depart also so it’s crucial Leigh start to lay down a marker with a few signings of their own to show their intent for next season and beyond.

NRL clubs will like the idea of Amone, who was impressive during his time in Australia previously. So if Leigh aren’t able to agree terms, the most likely route is a return down under for Amone who certainly has the ability to cut it in the NRL.
