St Helens star handed suspension and will miss Leeds Rhinos clash

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson has been handed a ban

Despite their huge victory at the weekend, St Helens fans will be left disappointed, as they’ve had one of their big names banned by the RFL Match Review Panel.

They were down to twelve men for much of their match against Castleford Tigers, but it didn’t stop them from scoring a whopping 60 points in the match.

Sione Mata’utia opened the scoring but the Tigers hit back, being awarded a penalty try.

In the same passage of play, Tommy Makinson was sent-off for a high shot on Tex Hoy.

However, they ended the match with ten tries on the board, after a Waqa Blake hat-trick and two apiece from Jack Welsby and James Bell.

Liam Horne’s red card in the second-half kick-started an impressive collapse for Craig Lingard’s side, and brought the game to twelve men apiece.

Super League Disciplinary: St Helens star handed ban

Tommy Makinson has been given a Grade C Head Contact charge by the RFL Match Review Panel and will miss their game against Leeds Rhinos at the Totally Wicked Stadium in Round 12 of Super League.

At the time, referee Jack Smith deemed the tackle to be worthy of a red card, saying there were no mitigating circumstances for the soulder to the head.

Elsewhere, Liam Byrne was yellow-carded for Wigan Warriors for his tackle in the first ten seconds of their victory over Huddersfield Giants, and also received a Grade C Head Contact charge.

Wigan fans will be frustrated, as although he received a lesser-card to Makinson, he will miss two games, as he’s at the higher end of the sanction grade due to a previous ban this year.

In addition, Liam Horne will miss one game due to a Grade C Dangerous Throw/Lift charge.
