RL Rumours: Blake Austin told to ‘sign the contract’, Jermaine McGillvary set for exit and Anthony Milford set to join Leigh Leopards

Below is a round-up of all the biggest rumours and gossip from the world of rugby league over the past week.

Blake Austin told to ‘sign the contract by Castleford players

Castleford Tigers player Blake Austin has certainly made some headlines this season. First his contract situation at Leeds Rhinos, then his surprise move to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle and now contract talk surrounds him again, as his new Castleford teammates have been urging him to ‘sign the contract’ on social media. Players like Liam Horne, Kenny Edwards and even former Leeds teammate Aidan Sezer took to social media to persuade him to pen a new deal; but will we see Austin at the Jungle next season?

Jermaine McGillvary set for Giants exit

Huddersfield Giants legend Jermaine McGillvary is set to end his time with the club. Speaking to the media following his side’s defeat to Hull KR on Friday, McGillvary said: “I think I’m done here.” McGillvary has spent 13 years with the Giants, notching 310 appearances in claret and gold and scoring an impressive 207 tires in the process. He was also part of the Giants squad that won the League Leaders Shield back in 2013. Only time will tell where he goes next, but he has cemented himself in Huddersfield Giants folklore for years to come.

Anthony Milford linked with Leopards move

According to reports from the Mole from the Wide World of Sports, Dolphins playmaker Anthony Milford is set to pen a deal to join Leigh Leopards ahead of the 2024 season. As per the infamous Mole, Milford is set to sign a deal that will see him end his playing career in the UK. During his time in Australia, he has represented the Canberra Raiders, Brisbane Broncos, Newcastle Knights and the Dolphins, as well as playing for Queensland in State of Origin. He also has nine caps for Samoa.

Zane Musgrove to Super League?

St George Illawarra Dragons have today confirmed they have released forward Zane Musgrove to allow him to take up an opportunity elsewhere. The forward has previously been linked with a move to Warrington Wolves, and with Sam Burgess taking the reigns for the 2024 season, this could pull Musgrove to the Halliwell Jones. Warrington already have already announced the acquisitions of Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Rodrick Tai ahead of next season, but could Musgrove be their latest addition?

Rugby League legend’s son offered to Super League sides

Tristan Sailor, son of Rugby League great Wendall Sailor, is being offered to Super League clubs, according to Fox Sports. The Mole from the Wide World of Sports has also commented on Sailor’s potential move on social media, tweeting: ““Tristan Sailor talking to several UK clubs… Moley would take him!”. Sailor has played 9 games in the NRL since 2019; however he has played most of his rugby in reserve grade, featuring 23 times for the St George Illawarra reserves in the NSW Cup and 29 times for Souths Logan in the Queensland Cup. At only 25 years old, he could be a shrewd signing for a Super League club
