NRLW player banned and fined 25% of contract for calling Queen Elizabeth II a ‘dumb dog’

Yes, it is as harrowing as it sounds – a rugby league player has been banned for calling Queen Elizabeth II a ‘dumb dog’ and saying her death was a ‘good day’.

That player is Newcastle Knights Women’s star Caitlin Moran who has been suspended by the NRL following an investigation into an offensive social media post she made.

Following the Queen’s sad passing, Moran posted a picture of the Queen to her Instagram story with the caption: ““Todays a good fkn day, uncle Luke announces his tour, and this dumb dog dies Happy fkn Friday,” before deleting the post eight hours later.

The NRL issued Moran with a one-match ban on Tuesday and have also fined her 25% of her salary for the season. She has been given five days to respond to the breach notice.

“The breach notice proposes a fine equivalent to 25 per cent of her current NRLW contract, wholly suspended, provided she fulfils a number of conditions,” reads the NRL’s statement, via news.com.

“The breach notice also proposes a one match suspension in the NRLW. The fine will be suspended for a period of 12 months to be payable immediately should the code be further breached in that period.

“Rugby league is an inclusive game and has a proud and strong relationship with many communities. Regardless of any personal views, all players and officials must adhere to the professional standards expected of them and on this occasion, the public comments made by the player have caused damage to the game.”

Despite the investigation and subsequent ban, Moran played in the Knights’ 18-16 nailbiting loss to the Parramatta Eels over the weekend, with head coach Ronald Griffiths backing her up.

Griffiths said: “I wasn’t worried. The relationship between indigenous people and the monarchy is a complicated one. If Caitlin has done something then it will be investigated by the Integrity Unit and we’ll work our way through the process.”

I want to say how angry I feel. But I don’t want to offended anyone. Can’t we maintain respect for our opponents. John McClain and pres. Obama showed how it should be done. GOD SAVE THE KING
