NRL rebel and Super League target Joey Leilua speaks out about rumours

Joey Leilua has spoken out about rumours of a train-and-trial contract been offered by Wests Tigers.

The NRL rebel was apparently linked with a deal worth just $1000 a week – a pay cut which would amount to over $800,000 for Leilua.

Leilua has been linked to a move to Super League, but his management are reportedly planning to send highlights of his performances to US rugby clubs playing in the 12-team Major League Rugby competition, too.

Despite winning the Dally M Centre of the Year twice in his career so far, Leilua has had notorious spats with former boss Ricky Stuart at the Canberra Raiders as well as current head coach Michael Maguire at Wests.

Leilua has made 224 appearances in the NRL since making his debut for the Sydney Roosters back in 2010, but it seems as though he has run out of chances.

The 29-year-old said: “When they start spreading rumours 🤔🤔.. someone in @nrlonnine must be doing favours for someone else 👀👀”.
