Toronto Wolfpack Head Coach Brian McDermott has confirmed in the press that his side have signed centre Kallum Watkins.
The England international was released from his contract at NRL side Gold Coast Titans on Saturday, in order to be closer to his family after a ‘serious family health issue’.
However, they are still waiting for approval from the RFL for the transfer to officially go through.
Watkins was given his debut in the Super League under McDermott at Leeds. He was then appointed captain in 2018.
McDermott told the Canadian Press: “We’re just going through a bit of red tape with the RFL to be able to register him. But yeah, he’s signed.
“We’re very fortunate Kallum chose us, we’re really excited about getting his services.
“I think by Kallum’s own admission, the last, I suppose, two seasons haven’t been his best. But there’s some real solid reasons why he wasn’t able to be his best — the injury being part of it, the adversity of leaving the Rhinos and going to the Titans mid-season had another part to play.”
