Mark Applegarth reveals what Wakefield Trinity need to improve as he praises win over Leeds Rhinos

Yesterday, Wakefield Trinity defeated Leeds Rhinos 38-20 at Headingley in a festive friendly.

It was of course only a friendly, but it was an encouraging display from Mark Applegarth’s side who gave a very pleased assessment after the game.

He said:

“Yeah I think both teams will be pretty happy and gotten what they wanted out of it

“We’ve been working hard in training on certain things in training in this first block of pre-season.”

When asked what he was looking for in the game, he said:

“Individuals knowing their roles and putting their hand up ready for round one.”

Meanwhile, he underlined the areas he thinks Wakefield need to improve:

“When we got that composure and started knocking a few sets out, in the areas of the field we wanted to. I thought we looked okay. There are a few things we need to fix up.

“As a team we have changed quite a few things so looking for cohesion one area we need to work on is probably the team on team stuff and making sure that, there were passages of play there when we were a bit sloppy and Leeds punished us and showed us why you need composure.”
