Leeds Rhinos sign Super League rival as Rohan Smith puts stamp on his squad

Leeds Rhinos are set for a big rebuilding stage under new head coach Rohan Smith.

After Richard Agar stepped down from his post at Headingley earlier in the season, the West Yorkshire club has been trying desperately to clamber away from the bottom of the Super League table.

Though they are still in some danger, Leeds now sit seven points ahead of bottom side Toulouse Olympique, with leading rugby league agent Craig Harrison of Show Me The Money UK, revealing one signing that the Rhinos will make.

Harrison also believes that the time is right for Smith at Leeds now.

“I think it is the right time for Rohan at Leeds,” Harrison said on The Full Eighty Minutes podcast.

“You get a big personality and he will challenge Gary Hetherington, but I can’t see Rohan doing that – he will work with what he’s got and he has brought in (Justin) Sangare the French prop (from Toulouse).

“He’s a budget prop who has a big future but I like him a lot but he will be pretty cheap and Rohan will try and work with players like that

“There’s not a demand on him hiring top dollar players.”

Smith himself also gave an update on potential new signings as well as likely departures from Headingley immediately and at the end of the season.

“We are in some conversations with some players. Retention has been the major focus, we have got a bunch of young players that have progressed this season but their status will move forward for next season,” Smith said in his press conference last week.

“Some have been tied up elsewhere and yet to be announced so there will be some departures that’s for sure, but there’ll be some incomings too.”

“There won’t be a lot of new people into the building but there’ll certainly be a little flurry of signings at some point.”
