Latest on Leigh Centurions head coaching situation as battle heats up

Leigh Centurions current interim head coach Kurt Haggerty has had his say on the future of his position at the club following their relegation from Super League.

Haggerty had been linked with a permanent deal at Leigh, but former Gold Coast Titans boss Jed Cartwright is also thought to be in the running.

Cartwright, who turned out 16 times for Salford in 1997, is currently assistant to Kevin Walters at the Brisbane Broncos, but speculation is mounting that Centurions owner Derek Beaumont wants to bring back the former USA national coach.

However, Haggerty has now also had his say on the potential opening.

“I would like to think I have brought a style of rugby that is attractive to watch and positivity to a difficult situation,” said Haggerty.

Discussing the coaching position, he added: “I understand the situation. Whatever decision the club make it has got to be the right one.

“I know the club want to rebuild and be competitive and get back in Super League.”
