Jon Wilkin’s brutal assessment of side’s chances of winning this weekend

Wakefield Trinity host Hull FC tonight as they seek their first win of the season and following a gutsy performance against Warrington, could this be the time?

It’s certainly getting to a point where Trinity could be cut adrift from the bottom of the table and two wins on the spin for fellow strugglers and Thursday’s opponents Hull FC makes this even more crucial.

Trinity battled hard with 12 men for the final 20 minutes against Warrington having gone in at the break drawing and that inspired performance could be a platform for them to build on and get their first two points of the season.

The game kicks off at 20:00.

TV coverage starts at 19:30 on Sky Sports Arena.

Mark Applegarth has named his squad for the game and Luke Gale could be set to feature, and possibly even haunt his old side.

But Jon Wilkin does not think that will happen at all today.

Asked if he will think they will defeat Hull FC tonight, Wilkin emphatically said: “No.”

He then responded to comments that Wakefield were better last week against Warrington Wolves.

“What’s the point in looking better if you lose?” Wilkin asked.

“Sport is binary. You win or you lose. No point in looking better.”

Meanwhile, Wilkin is also backing Wigan Warriors to beat Leeds Rhinos:

“I fancy a reaction from Wigan. But Leeds and Wigan have this amazing rivalry but I fancy Wigan to come good and there should be a reaction. They are a class outfit and should get the win.”
