Jamie Jones-Buchanan’s slams Gil Dudson red card

Leeds Rhinos

Gil Dudson’s return to Catalans Dragons has ended in the worst possible way.

The prop has been shown a red card for punching Tom Johnstone.

Johnstone was trying to wrestle out of the tackle with haste and was frustrating the man on top of him and then Dudson took exception to it.

At first he pushed Johnstone and then punched him whilst he was on the floor.

It was a moment that echoed the red card Ben Flower suffered in the 2014 Grand Final.

Stuart Pyke described it as “an act of total stupidity.”

Dudson was sent off in his last appearance for the Dragons last year against Leeds Rhinos in the play-offs.

It came after a magic moment from Johnstone.

He came up with a brilliant intercept to deny a certain try and then break away up field.

After the game, Jamie Jones-Buchanan gave a brutal assessment of the incident.

“He is a bit over passionate isn’t he? He has missed game time this year because of it and he has just had an explosion hasn’t he.

“I wasn’t quite sure what instigated this. You can’t do this. His last game there he was sent off in similar fashion and you would have thought he had learnt his lesson.

“It’s crackers. You have to have discipline. Warrington usually a team that looks like they invest heavily in discipline because in big games you can’t afford to have 12 men.”
