Jamie Jones-Buchanan says Wigan only have two players to defend against

A lot has been made of Wigan Warriors’ attack recently and it is set to face its toughest test against St Helens who have had the best defence in Super League for the last five years.

Going into that game, Wigan defeated Leigh Leopards 34-6 in the Battle of the Borough but speaking on Sky Sports Jamie Jones-Buchanan still isn’t convinced by it.

Speaking of Matt Peet’s tactical changes, he said:

“For me Wigan lack some of the tools.

“Morgan Smithies shows it for me there with that stat that he has only made 35 passes all season.

“He and Oliver Partington came through the system together and Paul Rowley has signed him and is getting him to do something different.

“For some reason, Wigan aren’t interested in that part of the game and they don’t have that through the middle and are limited in their options.

“But they are a very dangerous team, very industrious and have stamina.

“They rely on a bit of magic they put all their eggs in one basket and it is very very good.”

Speaking after the game, he said Leigh only had to defend against two players:

“Leigh only have two players to defend in Bevan French and Jai Field.”

Against St Helens, Field won’t feature after a hamstring injury.
