Is Barrow Raiders star Tee Ritson heading for this Super League club?

Tee Ritson’s name is one that is on everyone’s lips at the minute.

If ever there was a Championship high flyer that would settle in seamlessly in Super League then it is Barrow Raiders star Tee Ritson.

Having been linked with a move to the top flight earlier in the season following a number of eye-catching displays, speculation seems to have died down since then.

Yet, Ritson is still playing at the top of his game with his superb performance last weekend against Whitehaven cementing his place as one of the most exciting players outside of Super League.

The Thai international winger scored two tries to add to his already burgeoning tally as the Raiders put Widnes to the sword in an emphatic 40-6 win as Barrow continue to defy expectations in the second tier.

And, he was on target yet again the weekend just gone, with Ritson getting the winning try as Barrow overcame the Sheffield Eagles 36-32.

With St Helens needing a winger following Regan Grace’s exit to Racing 92 and rugby union, surely Ritson is a perfect fit?

Welsh winger Grace has been a revelation in the top flight of the UK game since debuting for the Merseyside club back in 2016.

Almost 150 appearances later and Grace is now set to move to French rugby union side Racing 92 after deciding to take up a one-year deal on the European mainland.

However, that move means that Saints will have to go into the transfer market to replace him as, unlike with Theo Fages and Lachlan Coote, Woolf does not have a like-for-like replacement in the squad.

And, for Woolf, that is a predicament that he has not found himself in yet as Saints boss.

“It is all quite new so those decisions have not been made yet. It is a decision we will get to over the next couple of weeks,” Woolf told theĀ St Helens Star.

“We have a big couple of weeks footy wise and that is going to be the focus, but in the next few weeks that is going to become a priority.

“It is important that we donā€™t rush in and get that wrong either.”

Woolf also identified that the new signing has to be as good as Grace both on and off the field.

“Regan has been great on the field, off the field and in every way possible.

“Whoever we replace him with needs to be exactly the same.

“That might mean that we need to be patient there to make sure it is the right person.”

However, the right person could well be around the corner.

With a superb try-scoring pedigree, electric pace and skills that definitely would not look out of place in Super League, Ritson has been a major part of that and is touted for a big move.

Could Ritson be the next star to move from the Championship to Super League and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Alex Walmsley and Chris Hill and take the top flight by storm?

The 26-year-old signed a three-year deal with Barrow back in the summer of 2021, but the club would likely not begrudge a move to Super League.
