“I don’t want to focus on the negatives but…” – Paul Rowley questions “tough calls” against Salford

Salford Red Devils trail 12-10 at halftime against Hull KR despite having the weight of possession.

They also had a few tries disallowed including one for Kallum Watkins.

This was one of a number of “tough calls” Salford boss Paul Rowley questioned as he spoke to Sky Sports.

“It’s easy to point the errors out but I think you have to credit Hull KR’s defence. Their scramble defence and resilience has stopped a few tries if I’m honest,” he said.

“I don’t want to focus on the negatives but we have scored a try that wasn’t awarded.

“I think we have had some tough calls go against us to be honest.

“We thought it was a try but he thought his ball carrying arm hit the deck.”

Salford thought they had the first try of the Magic Weekend when they cut the Robins up with wide plays prior to winning a penalty. Then stand in hooker Chris Atkin looked to dive over but lost the ball over the line.

After Salford again went close through Kallum Watkins, the Robins hit first. A lovely offload from James Batchelor set Matt Parcell away and great support from Lachlan Coote allowed Elliot Minchella to score.

Salford then levelled matters with an 80 metre try. Brodie Croft carved them up behind the ruck and found Joe Burgess in support to streak away.

Sadly we faced a very lengthy stoppage when Hull KR star James Batchelor was stretchered off after a nasty collision. Our thoughts are with him at this time.
