Hull FC make statement after controversial Franklin Pele suspension

Hull FC

Hull FC may have reason to feel aggrieved with the disciplinary so far this season.

It seems every week the Black and Whites are the harshest hit by the Match Review Panel and this has again been the case after their Round Five defeat to Leigh Leopards.

Hull FC star Franklin Pele has been suspended for the second time this season after his red card against Hull KR in Round One.

Fa’amanu Brown, who was wrongly red carded against Warrington Wolves in Round Two, has also been charged. Both Hull FC stars have been charged with “dangerous contact.”

Following this, Hull FC made a statement confirming the charges: “Two Hull FC player has been charged by the Match Review Panel following Saturday’s Betfred Super League Round 5 fixture against Leigh Leopards.

“Franklin Pele has been charged with a Grade C offence of ‘dangerous contact’.

“Pele has been handed a one-match penalty notice, and a £250 fine – he will be unavailable for Saturday’s Betfred Challenge Cup Sixth Round fixture against Huddersfield Giants.

“Fa’amanu Brown has been charged with a Grade B offence ‘dangerous contact’. Brown has been handed a £250 fine.”

The question is now: will Hull FC appeal the charge for Franklin Pele? You would expect that Hull FC wouldn’t based on this statement as they appear to accept the decision saying that Pele will be banned for the game against Huddersfield Giants.

However, after making a similar statement about Jack Ashworth’s controversial ban last week, they went on to appeal the suspension.

If they decide to appeal Pele’s charge it will be the second time that Pele has gone to tribunal after the red card he suffered against Hull KR.

This tribunal went relatively well for Pele. At the conclusion, the tribunal stated:

“The Tribunal thank for both sides for their submissions.

“They take into consideration the remorse shown by the player and his previous good behaviour. They also accept he is a young player who whilst inexperienced will learn from the situation.

“They note his clean previous record and his plea of guilt. Taking everything into account they feel he should be suspended for 3 matches. He will also be fined £750.”
