Super League Disciplinary: Four star players charged by match review panel

In the latest twist in the Super League Disciplinary, four players have been charged by the Match Review Panel from Round Five.

Super League Disciplinary has been a major talking point since Round One of the new season and from the very first game of the season.

The opening game of the season saw Franklin Pele and Ligi Sao both red carded for Hull FC whilst Herman Ese’ese and Matt Parcell were also both shown cards.

Then later in the round, Liam Watts was shown a controversial red card and since this Super League Disciplinary became a massive talking point.

This only intensified in Round Two when Fa’amanu Brown was sent of for accidental head contact in a decision that was deemed incorrect by the RFL.

That coincided with a rule change and a reduction in the number of bans being handed out to Super League players in the 2024 season.

Super League Disciplinary Charges

This trend has continued into Round Five as well with only four players charged.

Hull FC have again been hit the hardest by the disciplinary panel with two players charged by the match review panel.

Fa’amanu Brown has been charged for “dangerous contact.” With it being a Grade B he only gets fined £250.

Teammate Franklin Pele was charged with the same offence at Grade C and thus banned for one game for a hit that saw him sin binned against the Leigh Leopards.

Huddersfield Giants star Jake Connor was fined £250 for striking whilst Amir Bourouh was fined for the same offence as Fa’amanu Brown from Hull FC.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Amir Bourouh (Salford Red Devils) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £250 Fine
Jake Connor (Huddersfield Giants) – Grade B Striking – £250 Fine
Franklin Pele (Hull FC) – Grade C Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Fa’amanu Brown (Hull FC) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – £250 Fine

Hull FC have the option to appeal the ban for Pele if they hope he can feature in the Challenge Cup clash against Huddersfield Giants. Leigh Leopards will be appealing John Asiata’s charge from Round Three.
