Huddersfield Giants vs Warrington Wolves: Team news, match preview and score prediction

Many people expected at the start of the season for Warrington to be where Huddersfield are and for Huddersfield to be in Warrington’s position.

Wolves fans shouldn’t be disheartened by this however, it merely shows the effect patience can have at an ambitious club with Ian Watson doing a superb job one Daryl Powell can look to emulate in his second season at the club.

For now the focus will be on beating the Giants who reside in the top four but have suffered back to back defeats as have the Wolves. Who will get back to winning ways this week?

Team News

Huddersfield have lost Leroy Cudjoe to suspension this week but Olly Russell is still in the squad despite an injury scare last week. Hull KR bound Louis Senior is still in the squad as Adam O’Brien finally returns.

New signing Matt Dufty is set to debut for Warrington whilst youngster Riley Dean is back in the squad after concussion. Remarkably, George Williams, Jason Clark and Oliver Holmes could all make their 250th career appearances in the same came.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Toby King vs Jake Wardle: What an interesting battle. Two players playing against their parent clubs after they swapped with each other as part of a loan move. Both are exceptional if a bit different centres who I’m sure we will see in an England shirt at some stage during their careers, but who will have the better game in this unique situation remains to be seen.

Theo Fages vs George Williams: A pair of experienced halfbacks with Grand Final winning experience meet. It should be a fascinating battle as both look to direct the game in a certain direction.

Danny Levi vs Daryl Clark: I love watching both of these nines play due to their speed and how they blend that with organisation. When the game opens up, both will be a joy to watch again in this encounter.

Where the game will be won and lost:

Huddersfield simply need to get back to scoring regular points after some tough games recently against top teams. If they can execute their set plays without key players on the back of being methodical down the middle, they’ll be favourites for the win. Otherwise we could see the Wolves pull off a shock.

Score Prediction: Huddersfield Giants 18-6 Warrington Wolves
