Huddersfield Giants’ Ken Davy releases brilliant statement with exciting news for the Super League club

Huddersfield Giants owner Ken Davy has given an impassioned statement ahead of his side’s first game at home in 2022.

The Giants registered their first win of the 2022 Super League season last weekend, beating Toulouse Olympique comprehensively in the south of France.

And now the club are gearing up to welcome Hull KR tomorrow.

Davy said: “This isn’t just another season for Huddersfield Giants or for the Betfred Super League, this is the beginning of a new era of excitement and opportunity. Everyone at the Club is incredibly excited about the opportunities and challenges of the 2022 season, as our fantastic players get back to entertaining our fans on the pitch.

“Last week, the Huddersfield Giants made history by travelling to Toulouse Olympique for their first ever Super League match and we came away with an excellent two points.

“It was a real banana skin, and an incredibly difficult task, as the first side to play the newly-promoted side in the South of France. No-one knew what to expect, so go there and get a resounding win represented an excellent start and augurs well 2022 Season, and puts us in good heart to face Hull KR, this Saturday at 3:00pm.

“There are always challenges associated with a new season and one challenge for our 2022 Home Opener could be the weather. The good news is that the latest information suggests the weather will have calmed down for Saturday’s kick-off, and whilst there may be the odd shower, conditions should be ideal for an exciting match at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“An enormous amount of work and preparation have gone into the new season on and off the field and it’s great to have such an exciting match to begin our home campaign.  Hull KR reached the Super League Semi-Finals last year, coached by ex-Giants Head Coach Tony Smith. They have always been a tough side to beat, and have a good squad, but we are very confident and looking forward to another good result.

“Off the field and around the stadium on Saturday, we have lots going on to entertain, so we are encouraging everyone to arrive in good time. The Deliveree Food Festival, and a DJ, as well as X Factor star, and ex-Giants Academy player, Jordan Higo will entertain fans.

“All this, along with the Community Zone provided by the Huddersfield Giants Community Trust and much more for all ages, will be available in the lead-up to the match as we bring a festival atmosphere to the John Smith’s Stadium.

“There really is something for everyone, so we are encouraging supporters to come early as the Stadium is likely to be busy in the lead-up to kick off, and we don’t want anyone to miss a minute of the on field action.

“While there is no doubt that the game will go ahead, we are mindful that some of the plans for outside the Stadium may be affected by the weather, so please stay tuned to our website and Social Media channels for information on matchday.

“Adding to the excitement leading to this game will be our new signings named in the squad; Danny Levi, Theo Fages, Chris Hill, Tui Lolohea and the returning Sebastine Ikahihifo, who are expected to make their home debuts on Saturday.

“We are incredibly excited to see them run out for the first time in the Claret & Gold at the John Smith’s Stadium, and we hope you are too. I know our coach Ian Watson is as excited as everyone else about having his players featuring for their first home game of the New Season. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday as we enjoy everything that the Huddersfield Giants have to offer, and to a successful year for the Claret and Gold Giants.”
