Hodgson blasts his side following Wakefield thrashing and ‘sympathises’ with fans

Hull FC have won just once in their final ten games of the Super League season.

And, for head coach Brett Hodgson, tonight’s 44-12 drubbing by Wakefield was the final straw.

“It was hugely disappointing,” Hodgson said.

“First-half we saw in our first defensive set that we were trying to take it easy and it doesn’t set the right mindset, we need to be defending together and not taking shortcuts.

“We took way too many shortcuts and didn’t work hard enough, so we got punished simple as that.”

Hodgson, however, refused to distance himself from his players.

“I’m not going to separate myself from the playing group as we’re all in this together.

“It’s been a very disappointing back end to the to the year – there’s no doubt about that and we need to decide as a group how willing we are to work together for next year.”

The Hull FC boss was also keen to underline his sympathy with the fans.

“I understand they are reeling, it’s been very difficult and I sympathise with our supporters.

“We wanted to perform well because they have stuck by us and they will be hurting as much as we are there’s no doubt about that.

“This result highlights that we will change a few things in our organisation as I’m not even slightly happy with a ten minute period in the game – we just weren’t at the races.”

Hodgson knows that he needs to bring in some more players in the off-season and that work is already underway.

“We need to bring in some quality and bring in some depth, but I won’t speculate what that means.

“Even changes to our training structure is needed and our focus on the off-season.”
