An Independent Operational Rules Tribunal has rejected an appeal from the Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman against a three match suspension imposed when he was found guilty of a Grade C charge of “threatening language or body language” towards a match official – and then of a frivolous challenge to the original charge.
Newman has already served two matches of the suspension and will therefore be free to return after this weekend’s game at Toulouse.
The Halifax Panthers forward Titus Gwaze has been suspended for eight matches, and fined £250, after being found guilty of a Grade F charge of Other Contrary Behaviour – lifting an injured player – in the Betfred Championship fixture at Barrow Raiders on June 27.
The RFL has also confirmed to Keighley Cougars that the Betfred League One fixture at London Skolars which was scheduled for last weekend and awarded to them with a 48-0 scoreline after the Skolars were unable to provide necessary levels of medical cover will count towards the two-match suspension imposed on Dane Chisholm for a Grade C charge of foul and abusive language in their match against Oldham on June 27.
Newman isn’t the only one to sit out this weekend’s fixtures either.
Following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures at the Magic Weekend, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:
Connor Wynne (Hull FC) – Grade B Late Hit on Passer – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Dean Hadley (Hull KR) – Grade B Late Hit on Kicker – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Brad Fash (Hull FC) – Grade A Dangerous Contact – 0 Match Penalty Notice
George Williams (Warrington) – Grade A Late Hit on Passer – 0 Match Penalty Notice
Matt Prior (Leeds) – Grade B Late Hit on Kicker – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Liam Watts (Castleford) – Grade B High Tackle – 2 Match Penalty Notice

Sione Mata’utia (St Helens) – Grade A Late Hit on Passer – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Brad Singleton (Wigan) – Grade C High Tackle – 3 Match Penalty Notice
The following player was handed a caution:
Danny Levi (Huddersfield) – High Tackle
Whilst Levi, Fash, Williams and Croft will not miss any games, the same cannot be said of eight others that were charged by the MRP.
Wynne will miss Hull’s game against Wigan Warriors on Friday night, with Singleton also missing that game and two further fixtures for Wigan.
Meanwhile, Hull KR’s Hadley was able to overturn his one-match ahead of Rovers’ home clash with Wakefield Trinity on Sunday, with Trinity also being without Rob Butler.
Liam Watts, Matt Prior and Sitaleki Akauola will also miss two games for indiscretions from the Magic Weekend.
