Derek Beaumont offers Leigh Leopards squad crazy reward if they win Challenge Cup

Derek Beaumont

Leigh Leopards sit above Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Hull KR in the league table.

In fact no British rugby league team is currently above the Leopards in the British pyramid.

The Leopards are the top dogs of British rugby league and are headed to the home of English sport when they compete in a first Challenge Cup Final since 1971.

But remarkably this comes less than a year after the club’s historic rebrand from Leigh Centurions into the Leigh Leopards which many people scoffed at but it would be the springboard for some amazing signings such as the arrival of Zak Hardaker, Ricky Leutele and more.

These are the players who have fired Leigh to Wembley but as the Leigh Leopards.

Speaking on BBC, Derek Beaumont explained the reasons behind the rebrand: “IMG coming in, I was a bit nervous because they were only going to select 12 teams and I thought we looked too much like Wigan with the red and white and a centurion as a mascot.

“It is about being a show and standing out there and getting people to buy in and the fans have done that.

“They are wearing the leopard print.”

He also confirmed that the player would go on special trip should the win at Wembley:

“There will be a trip at the end of the season. Last year it was Vegas if we won the treble and we did that, we are in the running for the treble in 2023 and what a story that would be but these guys are getting rewarded.

“If something comes off it will be Vegas, Ibiza if not because no matter what we do now they have achieved something amazing.

“Hats off to Adrian Lam, Chris Chester and Neil Jukes and what they have done.

“I am so excited. Up the Leopards.”

If the Leopards needed any added incentive then that will certainly give the players it.

No matter what happens in the rest of this season or indeed at Wembley though Leigh’s season and the rebrand has been a success and that cannot be disputed.
