Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has dropped the biggest hint yet that he will extend the contract of current head coach Adrian Lam.
There has been plenty of focus on the off-contract players in Super League so far this year, particularly after the May 1st deadline, but Adrian Lam is arguably the biggest name off-contract this year.
The Leigh Leopards head coach sees his deal expire at the end of the current season making him the most high-profile man whose future is undecided.
Talks have been ongoing regarding the Papua New Guinean’s future at the Leigh Sports Village with owner Beaumont having let slip just recently that a three-year contract had been put in front of Lam.
Speaking to those in the Hospitality Suite at the Leigh Sports Village, an animated Beaumont revealed: “Lammy (Adrian Lam) has had a deal put to him, it’s a three-year deal and we’d like to keep him. If somebody’s throwing crazy offers around and someone wants to take that with the uncertainty that brings, then that’s their decision.
“What I can guarantee you is that we’ll be a club spending a full salary cap, as we are, with the full three marquee quotas that you’re allowed and with a top-level coach.”
The question now is; has Beaumont once again let it slip early and confirmed Lam’s new deal with Leigh Leopards?

It would certainly appear that Leigh Leopards have got their man with Derek Beaumont taking to X (formerly Twitter) last night to share an image of himself and Lam shaking hands with a bottle of bubbly being exchanged.
Beaumont captioned the image: “Some things are worth coming home for.”
It’s unclear if the post specifically references a new contract for Adrian Lam but with Beaumont clad up in his leopard-print top and his smile beaming, plenty of fans are putting two and two together.
The Leigh Leopards owner is also often out of the country which could well be what he’s alluding to when referencing the fact “things are worth coming home for”.
Just recently, Beaumont’s social media platforms showed him on a private plane where he was toasting to ‘Ultimate Rugby’, a concept that he has previously spoken about in terms of making rugby league a more worldwide sport.
For now though, the focus is on the Borough of Wigan and the town of Leigh, and whether or not Adrian Lam has actually signed a new deal. It would be a massive coup for the club if they have managed to fend off NRL interest and of course, Hull FC, who had been reportedly eyeing up a double swoop for Adrian and son Lachlan.

With his off-contract status such a hot topic of discussion, and his owner frequently speaking on the matter and revealing inner dealings, there have been plenty of questions posed to Adrian Lam on what is next for him.
After the Hull FC links, Adrian Lam had spoke on those connections, stating: “I was linked with the Souths job last week, it’s Hull this week, it’s probably someone else next week.
“I don’t want to get too caught up with negotiating or talking to other clubs that may be of interest or all speculation in my opinion.”
He had also responded to the claim from Beaumont that a three-year deal had been put forward to him. The Leigh Leopards owner batted it back, rather than confirming anything.
“I’m not sure if that’s exactly right,” he said in his post-match presser, after that draw with Castleford Tigers, available on LeopardsTV.
“I’ve been talking to the club and we’re certainly down the track, but I didn’t know he’d given out the details.”
Could his future finally be resolved now with Beaumont’s ominous post on X, or is the Leigh Leopards owner ‘fishing’ once again as he so often claims to be?
