Warrington Wolves unveil unique Magic Weekend shirt

Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves have released a new throwback shirt paying homage to their 1997 campaign with the strip set to be donned on two occasions, including Magic Weekend.

The Wire have always produced impressive kits with their bold colour scheme and the newest edition of Primrose and Blue is no different. Set to be worn twice across the 2024 campaign, it will make its first appearance in the upcoming “retro round” against Wigan in early June before also being worn at Magic Weekend against Leeds Rhinos in August.

Warrington Wolves confirmed the new shirt via their social media channels whilst also releasing a statement on their website detailing the inspiration behind the new third shirt.

It read: “Warrington Wolves is excited to launch our official 2024 third kit which pays homage to the Wire jersey from the 1997 Super League season.

“The strip will be worn twice by the men’s first team this season – firstly in our upcoming “retro round” against Wigan Warriors on Saturday 1 June and again at Magic Weekend against Leeds Rhinos at Elland Road on Saturday 17 August.

“The shirt sees alternate primrose and blue vertical stripes with an iconic chequered pattern across the collar and sleeves. The club’s triangle-shaped logo from the era is also used as part of the retro design with our current shirt sponsors proudly featured.”

Warrington Wolves new third shirt advert goes down a storm

The shirt has garnered attention online from fans of all clubs, not just those Warrington Wolves fans, and part of that has come due to the brilliant marketing video that Wire have used to promote the shirt.

As well as the initial statement launching the shirt, the promo video shows a fan come across their old 1997 shirt whilst moving house, a nod to the ’97 shirt’s sponsor Greenalls.

It’s hard not to feel nostalgic when watching and the shirt certainly packs that nostalgic punch, even using the club’s old badge as opposed to the new one.

The badge is also woven and the shirt dons a chequered collar too to bring back those memories of yesteryear.

There has also been a release of warm-up t-shirts with that design based on the 1997 away kit, however, they are of limited stock.

Information on pricing was included in Warrington Wolves statement: “The shirt is available online now and from the official club store 9am on Friday priced at £52 for adults and £38 for juniors. Any store discounts or promotions cannot be used as part of your purchase. The shorts and socks are not available for purchase also.

A very limited number of our warm-up t-shirts, which is based on the away kit design from the 1997 season, are also available in-store and online from £40.”
