Chester gives injury update and addresses Fifita rumours

Wakefield boss Chris Chester has given Trinity fans an update on Tom Johnstone and David Fifita, as well as the rest of the squad as his side gears up for round one against Leeds.

“We’ve got a few soft tissue injuries; we’ve had quite a few actually, certainly at the start of pre-season on the 4G pitch.

“We’ve had a couple of problems with pulled calves and hamstrings and we picked up an injury with Pittsy (Jay Pitts), but we’re pretty sure he will be ok.

“We’re training on a new surface – that probably had a big effect on players’ tolerance levels. We’re not far away from our strongest team, barring a couple of guys who have had minor surgery over the last four weeks.

“Tom was struggling with his achilles and Dave was pulled out as a precaution last week, but both should be fine.”

Fifita was subject to rumours of a move home during lockdown, but Chester was quick to quell any fears that the ‘Big Bopper’ was ever near leaving the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

“We knew there was no truth in it, I’m off social media so I had somebody send it to me and Dave pretty much quashed it straight away.

“It came out of nowhere, I think he’s got two years left for us. I’m led to believe it was an Australian reporter, he’s never spoken to any of our players. It was quickly put to bed.”
