Channel 4 set for another Super League broadcasting special this weekend

The feedback from the supporters when asked about Channel 4’s coverage of Super League is that they often ‘don’t know it’s on.’

Well, Serious About Rugby League has been committed to writing consistent articles about when a game will be broadcast on Channel 4 and who will be broadcast.

Last weekend, viewers were able to see Castleford Tigers travel to St Helens with both teams coming off a bad loss the week before against Wakefield Trinity and Salford Red Devils respectively.

Of course, the main problem with Channel 4 coverage is that it has been few and far between – despite it being mightily impressive when it has actually been covered.

Viewers who tuned in to watch Saints overcome Castleford, 20-12, on Sunday afternoon had had to wait for over two months to see another game on terrestrial television after Castleford christened the channel against the Wigan Warriors back at the start of June.

Though Channel 4 only signed up for ten Super League and play-off games for 2022, that number will surely grow on the back of a wholly successful year broadcasting – fans just want more!

The punditry team of Adam Hills, Helen Skelton and Danika Priim alongside the commentary team of Mark Wilson and Kyle Amor have been given glowing reviews by those watching whilst the guest pundits have also been hailed.

The likes of Tui Lolohea, Sam Tomkins and Leon Pryce are just some of those that Channel 4 have tapped into to give a more broader view of the game being broadcast.

Up this week will be Huddersfield Giants against the Salford Red Devils, live on Channel 4 on Saturday 13 August from 12.30pm with a kick off at 1pm at the AJ Bell Stadium.

It will be the first time that Salford have been covered on terrestrial television, but with the likes of Brodie Croft, Tim Lafai and Joe Burgess in excellent form, it promises to be a cracker!
