Brian Carney explains how highlights from England’s win over France can be used to “sell the game”

Shaun Wane and his England captain George Williams put the focus on defence after the 64-0 win over France but Sky Sports’ presenter Brian Carney wants to see the game use the attacking exploits of England in that game used to sell the game.

He highlighted some of the brilliant tries George Williams was central to saying that they can be used to sell the game to a wider audience.

“George made a point that Shaun Wane will be happy with the zero against France, but when we are trying to sell the game of rugby league, we should focus on the tries,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Some of the spectacular tries that George Williams created for his teammates and scored himself today.”

This is something that Tony Smith echoed as he highlighted the skills we saw from England:

“Absolutely, some long distanced tries but some really skilful ones too. Some outstanding pieces of skill there without pushing it out.

“They played within their skillsets. They didn’t push it too far and it was attractive to watch but once again unless you practice that in games you won’t become great so as a country we have got to play more and more.”

This is an interesting viewpoint with many concerned that these types of blow out scores will struggle to attract fans.
