Best Rugby League bets for 2020

Rugby league fans will be counting down the days now until the Super League and NRL return in 2020.

The fixtures for the new campaigns have already been released, while bookmakers have priced up odds on who will be lifting the silverware next year.

Here is a look at three bets which will hopefully help you make a profit in rugby league in 2020.

St Helens to win the Super League Grand Final

It was a dominant season for St Helens in 2019 as not only did they win the Grand Final, beating Salford Red Devils at Old Trafford, but they also lifted the League Leaders’ Shield as they prevailed in 26 of their 29 regular season matches, finishing 16 points clear of their nearest rivals Warrington Wolves.

However, there will be a coaching changing at the Merseyside club in 2020, with Kristian Woolf now in charge after Justin Holbrook departed to return to the NRL.

Saints have held onto all of their leading stars so they go into next year as the team to beat and will want to prove how dominant they can be again. At 5/2 in the Super League outright betting, the defending champions are worth backing to lift the trophy in October for the second year running.

Melbourne Storm to win the NRL Grand Final

Melbourne Storm were the front runners to win the NRL Grand Final for large parts of last season as they hit the front of the standings from very early into the campaign and held that position until the end of the regular season.

Unfortunately for the Storm, they were beaten in the preliminary final by Sydney Roosters in a low scoring game 14-6. That was their second defeat in three games in the final series as their form dipped at exactly the wrong time of the year.

Melbourne will be hoping to make up for that disappointment next year and there is no reason to suggest they won’t be able to do that. They will be spurred on even further by the setback so take last season’s regular season winners to be successful in the Grand Final where they are 11/2 in the NRL betting in 2020.

Toronto Wolfpack to beat Castleford Tigers in Round 1 of Super League

There is a lot of excitement around Toronto Wolfpack’s opening appearance in the Super League next year, especially after the marquee signing of Sonny Bill Williams who becomes the highest-paid rugby player in history across the two codes.

The Wolfpack want to have a real good shot at the Super League in 2020 and not just make up the numbers. Although it is hard to see them challenging St Helens, Wigan and Warrington for the top spot in the league, they could pick up some big results.

Toronto are 17/10 to defeat Castleford Tigers in the opening game of the campaign at Headingley in the 3-way betting. That looks to be a good bet as they are likely to start the season well so take them to make a winning start. The 2020 Super League season begins on January 30 when Wigan take on Warrington at the DW Stadium.
