Adrian Lam reveals his hilarious initial reaction to Leigh Leopards kit but says he now loves it

Leigh have been a huge story headed into the 2023 Super League season after owner Derek Beaumont renamed the once Leigh Centurions as the Leigh Leopards.

Thios came after an exceptional promotion campaign in the Championship and today the rugby again did the talking as Adrian Lam’s side defeated Leeds Rhinos 14-12.

After the game, Lam was asked about the rebrand and he revealed he spoke to Beaumont about it throughout last year:

“I talked to Derek through that whole process. Derek hadn’t done much differently to the club in terms of colours, logos and brands so it was an opportunity for him to get his touch on the club.

“By doing that he has invested more in it, Round One plans for entertainment are unbelievable, like we haven’t seen before. We’re excited by it.”

That said, he revealed he wasn’t sure about the leopard print kit at first.

“We’ve bought into it. We’ve bought into wearing the leopard print. When the leopard print was first brought to training we were like ugh [or a noise I cannot accurately describe], what do we do with this? But I love it now.

“I’m loving it in training and all the boys are too. The fans that aren’t on board, I think they will turn the corner.”

He believes it will be good for the club as a whole:

“What it’s good about it is the exposure that it has got, the social media atmosphere. It has been taken on by everyone. So if we can back that up with the rugby that will be good.

“That’s the hard part, every team that has come up in the last few years, has gone straight back down.

“We have challenges all around.”
