York snap up Wakefield duo

York have confirmed the signings of young Wakefield duo Daniel Barcoe, 20, and Harry Dodd, 19, for 2021.

The pair have been standout members of Trinity’s academy and reserve systems in recent years and will now have the chance to test themselves at senior level next season.

They become the Knights’ third and fourth new signings for next year, joining experienced back rower Danny Kirmond and halfback Morgan Smith.

On the signings, York head coach James Ford said: “Dan is a very lively hooker/halfback who has come highly recommended to us from Mark Applegarth (Mash) at Wakefield Trinity.

“Mash was particularly positive around his character and his drive to be the best version of himself. Danny will be one of three hookers and he’s excited to learn and compete for a spot in our seventeen.

“Harry is a young man that I’m really excited about working with. He demonstrated a high level of potential in Wakefield’s reserve side and I was very impressed with his maturity, commitment and drive when I met him.

“Harry will be competing with some experienced forwards for an opportunity, and it will be exciting to watch him develop and compete for a starting spot.”
