York announce another major signing as they build for a big 2022

York City Knights feel like a Championship club on the up. In 2021, they wowed many with their recruitment bringing in the likes of Adam Cuthbertson on the back of a Challenge Cup Final win with Leeds, and are recruiting well going into 2022.

They’ll have been disappointed with their 2021 campaign all told. They missed out on the play-offs many tipped them to be a part of and lost in the 1895 Cup Final in a try fest against Featherstone.

The frustration of 2021 has been reflected in a week of brilliant recruitment over the last seven days. This may very well have peaked with today’s new signing in the shape of Salford forward Pauli Pauli.

The powerful and ferocious forward intriguingly played in the 2020 cup final against the aforementioned Cuthbertson and the two will help form a scary looking York pack in 2022.

On the back of the last two seasons, the signing should be considered a major coup especially when you remember he was part of the Combined Nations All Stars side who downed England earlier this year and his cup final experience in which he crossed for a superb try. Moreover, his ability to be a wide but powerful running threat will give York something special in attack next year.

The 27-year-old 6 foot 4 prop, will join up with the Knights ahead of the 2022 season so long as his Visa goes through.

Highly thought of York coach James Ford was clearly delighted by the signing when he spoke to York’s official site today: “Pauli is someone I’m really looking forward to working with and I’m keen to help him play at the very top of his game. He’s a big, intimidating man who will add another dimension to our game in attack and defence.

“I’ve spoken to a number of people about Pauli and there was a unanimous opinion that he’s a player I’d enjoy working with. He is keen to work hard at his game and that was something that really drew me towards him.”
