Willie Peters speaks on Hull KR’s goal kicking woes

Last night Hull KR were back to their attacking best against Wakefield Trinity running in an impressive seven tries.

However, they only scored 34 points with four misses when it came to attempts at goal.

Mikey Lewis was first given the reigns and missed three from three leaving Hull KR only leading 12-0 after three tries.

Lachlan Coote took over having been their usual kicker and had much more success.

Speaking after the game, coach Willie Peters opened up on the decision:

“I wanted to trial Mikey just to see how he goes in a game environment. He’s kicking them from all over the park in training so I wanted to give him the opportunity.

“I still think Cootey is probably the most natural and best choice at the moment, and the reason I say that is that it won’t impact his game as much if he does miss.

“I know there’s a lot of pressure on goal kickers and there’s been a lot of pressure on Cootey because he’s missed a few last year and against Warrington.

“Part of Mikey’s game is developing him and I want to develop his whole game so if you’ve got a young half who can kick goals, it’ll help you down the track.”
