Widnes Vikings have made a key double swoop ahead of their Qualifiers campaign with the signings of Liam Finn and Harrison Hansen.

Both players have vast top tier experience and bring a timely boost to Francis Cummins’ side before a very competitive middle eights campaign.

Finn has had limited game time at Wakefield Trinity this year while Hansen was Leigh Centurions’ captain but the Championship club look set to finish outside of the top four.

Finn links up with the Vikings on loan till the end of the season while Hansen will be a Viking until the end of 2019 at least.

Commenting on the signing of Hansen, Cummins said: “We are delighted to be signing Harrison, not just for this vital stage of the season, but also as we prepare for the 2019 campaign too,”

“Harrison offers real experience and leadership to the team, having played in some quality environments and featured in high-pressure games throughout his career.

“He will bring real presence to either our middle or our edge, as someone who plays with real intent and offers power in defence.”

Regarding the loan of Finn, Cummins added: “Everybody is looking for good halves, and there aren’t many available, so we’re very pleased to have secured Liam’s services for the remainder of this season.

“Liam adds tremendous experience to the side and has shown an ability to control the game throughout his career. He is someone who always wants the ball in his hands, has real game sense, and knows how to handle different situations on the pitch.

“Importantly, Liam has had a massive influence on every team that he has been part of and made those places better – hopefully, he can have the same effect with us.”
