Watch: Sometimes, things just don’t go to plan…

Taking to the Rugby League field takes guts, no matter how talented or skilful you are.

But, just sometimes those guts can make a player do funny and interesting things. A so-called ‘brainfart’ is enough to describe a mistake that someone would not normally do, but is pressured into doing due to the context of what is happening around him or her.

Unfortunately, this ‘brainfart’ from former Batley Bulldogs winger Shaun Ainscough still does the rounds six years on. With his side leading Featherstone Rovers – away from home too – all Ainscough had to do was kick the ball out of play as the hooter sounded.

However, as the rest of the Rugby League fraternity knows, his kick failed to make touch, instead bouncing inside the Bulldogs’ half where Featherstone’s Will Sharp pounced to score in dramatic fashion. Even the commentators could not believe what they had just seen as the Batley players fell to the ground in astonishment and as the Rovers players jumped for joy.

Sorry, Shaun, look away.
