Warrington Wolves take shot at injury-riddled Leigh Leopards ahead of clash

Warrington Wolves take on Leigh Leopards this weekend with Wire heavy favourites for the win against an injury-riddled Leigh side, however, that’s not stopped the Wire social media team from taking a shot at the Leopards.

When naming their 21-man squad for the game on Saturday, Warrington’s X (formerly Twitter) account captioned their teamsheet: “Our 21-man squad has been named to take on the Jaguars this Saturday.”

It’s a continuation of their spat from last year in which they refused to recognise the Leopards as Leopards, instead insisting that the creature in question on Leigh’s shirt was a jaguar.

Leigh had gotten involved with the banter themselves when sharing Warrington’s video, labelling themselves as the American Football team Jacksonville Jaguars.

Putting that nonsense aside, the teams have been named and both sides are missing key players but clearly, it’s Leigh who have been hit the hardest.

Dream Team players Edwin Ipape and John Asiata remain absent whilst winger Tom Briscoe is another long-term injury, but Gareth O’Brien is a recent addition to the injury list.

Adrian Lam confirmed after the defeat to Hull KR that the full-back was slated for six weeks out which is a massive blow and will once again force them to make changes at the back.

Matt Moylan played full-back against KR whilst Zak Hardaker has plenty of credentials there too, but it could be that they sign David Armstrong from the NRL, the Newcastle Knights player who they had previously chased after.

That would only happen if Castleford make a move for Ben Nakubuwai as reported, something that in turn only happens if Cas can free up a quota spot, meaning the deal is still a long way away.

Leigh Leopards are boosted by Robbie Mulhern being named in the squad, a player that Lam had also claimed could be sidelined for a long time due to a calf tear.

As for Warrington, they’re without Ben Currie, but they’re able to name much of the same squad that hammered St Helens in the Challenge Cup last weekend, including the return of Paul Vaughan who comes back after his two-game ban.
