Warrington Wolves have provided an injury update on young playmaker Leon Hayes after the 20-year-old was stretchered off the field in the loss to Salford Red Devils over the weekend.
Approaching the 60th minute Hayes stayed down after a tackle and those around him quickly alerted the medical team who would work on Hayes for a period of five minutes.
During that time Hayes was administered with oxygen as the medics put his ankle in a brace before stretchering him off to chants of ‘There’s only one Leon Hayes’ from the Warrington Wolves faithful.
Sam Burgess had provided a short update post-match about the youngster but the club have now confirmed a timeline for Hayes’ return.

Burgess’ post-game assessment, as reported initially by The Warrington Guardian saw him reveal that Hayes remained in good spirits.
The Wire coach said: “I’ve spoken to him on the phone and he’s in good spirits – he’s probably more disappointed with the loss, if I’m honest, which shows a lot about his character.
“I’m gutted for him but that’s sport.”
Warrington Wolves have now echoed those sentiments whilst confirming that Hayes will be out for six months, meaning he’ll miss the rest of the 2024 season unfortunately.
The club posted on X: “Update | Leon Hayes has suffered a fracture dislocation of his ankle and will undergo surgery this week. The young half-back will be sidelined for approximately six months.
“Leon is in good spirits and appreciative of all the messages of support since Saturday. We’re with you in every step of your recovery, Leon.”
It’s an awful blow for Hayes who had truly forged a role for himself in the squad having only made three Super League appearances for the Wolves prior to this season.
However, injury to those ahead of him and new head coach Sam Burgess gave Hayes a chance with the 20-year-old having played in all of the club’s games from Round Two onwards.
Josh Drinkwater will now likely return to the fray to partner George Williams in the halves whilst Hayes will begin the long road of recovery. All at Serious About Rugby League wishes Leon all the best on that journey and are excited to see his comeback in 2025.
