Warrington Wolves need a ‘senior coach’ with ex-player placing current Super League boss on wish list

Former Warrington Wolves players Kevin Brown and Adrian Morley have listed who they think should replace Daryl Powell as Head Coach at the club, following his departure on Sunday.

Since the announcement, former St Helens coach Justin Holbrook has been the favourite to take the reins at the Halliwell Jones, however Brown has suggested three other people his former employers should hunt, including current Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley.

Speaking on the Sportsman YouTube channel’s ‘Last Tackle’, Brown said: “I’d try and do it as soon as possible but I wouldn’t rush and sacrifice getting the right coach to get him in quickly.

“I think they need a senior coach who’s been around the block, a Shaun Wane, a Paul Rowley, a Wayne Bennett, could they entice him over? They need someone who’s the biggest person out there.”

He also suggested Holbrook could be a good replacement: “Yeah, well he’d (Justin Holbrook) be another great one, I’m not sure. I think his stock is too good in Australia at the moment, I think he’ll get a job over there. If they could get him over, then he’s another senior, he’s a tried and tested coach.”

Adrian Morley also said his former teammate Holbrook was his choice to take the job, something that won’t happen now with reports down under stating Holbrook has rejected Warrington.

“Justin Holbrook would be my (choice), I played with Justin, good guy. He knows what the Super League is all about. He lived in the North West, up the road in St Helens.

“He’s been relieved of his duties in Australia, he’s available, but I know he’s got kids and family, it’s whether they want to go to the other side of the world when he’s potentially got options there in Australia as well.”

Justin Holbrook is still the bookies favourite, but with the reports in Australia suggesting the former Gold Coast Titans coach has rejected an initial approach from the Wolves then it seems unlikely that they will land him however only time will tell if we see him in the coaching box at the Halliwell Jones.
