Warrington Wolves chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick has reportedly headed to Australia to tie up Super League deals for some NRL stars.
That’s according to the Daily Telegraph which has reported the Warrington man is eyeing up Matt Dufty – as per Rugby League Live earlier in the week – as well as fellow Canterbury Bulldogs prop Paul Vaughan, despite Wigan also interested in the latter.
Vaughan, of course, was given a lifeline by the Bulldogs ahead of the 2022 season following an indiscretion-packed season with St George Illawarra Dragons in 2021.
At St George, 31-year-old Vaughan had played five seasons, registering almost 100 appearances after making the move from Canberra Raiders where he began his career.
The rampaging prop made 85 appearances for Canberra and, tallied up with his 96 for St George and nine for Canterbury, takes him to almost 200 NRL games – which is certainly no mean feat.
For Warrington, it would be some much-needed firepower up front following criticism of a lightweight pack in Daryl Powell’s first season in charge at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The Wolves lost the likes of Chris Hill from their side at the end of 2021 with the now Huddersfield Giants forward heading to the Challenge Cup Final with his new club in under a fortnight’s time.
