Wakefield Trinity set for huge transfers in 2025

Wakefield Trinity are set to make some major signings in 2025 should they secure promotion back to Super League.

They have been linked with a move for England internationals Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken from Catalans Dragons as well as a move for highly thought of Huddersfield Giants halfback Olly Russell.

This comes as Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Daryl Powell confirmed to Serious About Rugby League previously that the club are set to make some major moves in the transfer market as they look to cement themselves as a top four Super League club moving forward.

He said: “I think the one thing we want to be is a team in the top four in Super League. We want to be signing top quality players I haven’t got any news on anybody at the moment but you know for certain we’ll be in the market for some of the top players in the game.”

This is a very similar approach to the one we have seen Leigh Leopards take in recent times and has yielded tremendous success.

Wakefield Trinity confirmed on their social media that Isaiaha Vagana has arrived at the club after completing his move from down under.

The club moved swiftly to capitalise on amendments to visa requirements to allow UK clubs to acquire outstanding young overseas talent.

Isaiah, 23 certainly has the correct pedigree being the son of the legendary Joe Vagana the Bradford Bulls and New Zealand International prop forward. He stands at 6’3” tall and tips the scales at over 16 stones.

He has progressed through the New Zealand Warriors squad since 2020 and has recently been on the fringes of his NRL debut.

His career started at the Mount Albert Lions junior club in NZ and he represented the Junior Kiwis International team in 2019. Last season he played 24 games for the Warriors in their NSW cup side at both prop and back row.

Vagana will take the squad number 19 shirt for Trinity in 2024 in an increasingly powerful forward pack in what is sure to be an exciting and successful season as Wakefield Trinity strives to take the Championship by storm and return to the Super League at the first attempt.
